Autumn Break

by Molnár-Papp Orsolya Anna

It was fantastic, amazing, wonderful, relaxing, tiring, happy, stunning, dreamy, so, all in all, it was a perfect autumn break!

So I mentioned before I’ll go to a vacation in my autumn break, so here I am with a huge grin on my face as I try to get all the little happiness pieces aka memories together…if you missed the point of the sentence above, I had a really really really (really) great time! Finally this time we had a real vacation! :))

We left on Tuesday. It was a sunny, warm and remarkably colorful autumn day, so if we weren’t excited enough before we left, the weather made our day and mood even better, made us more delighted!

After a two-two and a half hours drive, we reached our destination: Hajdúszoboszló!

Hajdúszoboszló’s spa-complex (Aqua-Palace, Aquapark, Strand, Thermal Bath and Swimming Pools) is one of the largest spas in Hungary and to tell the truth in Europe…I think it tells something! 🙂

We stayed at a three-star hotel, the Hunguest Hotel Hőforrás ***.

The hotel’s lobby had a little retro feeling, but in the good way, nostalgic I think. We had a small, but comfortable room and since we didn’t planed to spend our days in the hotel room, it was perfect to us. The hotel has two indoor pool, a thermal and a jacuzzi/pool, a sauna, a solarium, sadly the outdoor pool closes at the end of September. Can it be even better? Why, yes! Buffet breakfast and dinner!

So, on our first day, we didn’t do much just getting know the hotel and planning the week.

The first dinner was a surprise…I’ve seen buffet breakfasts, but not a single buffet dinner until now. It was so delicious! Their fruit soup (it was raspberry this time) is so mouth-watering, I can almost taste it!

The sunset was magnificent from our balcony!

The next day we woke up early and went down to have a breakfast. As soon as I took a look at the selection I knew the breakfasts will be my favorite!

Choices:

Whole wheat brown bread with grains, white bread, brioche, buns, real butter, margarine, at least ten kinds of cold cuts, omelet, sausage, fried bacon, kinds of granola, grains, jams, vegetables, fruit salad, three kinds of juices, hot tea, warm milk, and coffee!

I was in heaven, so usually, I get myself a whole wheat brown bread with grains, a piece of real butter, a cold cut, a little omelet, a little fruit salad, a glass of grapefruit-peach juice and a cup of steaming coffee latte.

After the breakfast, we decided to take a walk. Hajdúszoboszló is gorgeous in fall. It’s full of colorful trees, one street called Szilfákalja (elm-lined street or elm street for short)…The first stop of our walk was the Bell House. It’s stunning with its 50 bells and its chime in every half hour!

The weather was so warm and sunny we didn’t even noticed how fast the time flies, it was noon when we headed back from the walk. A place caught our attention; the Elm Street Kitchen! Since A Nightmare on Elm Street is my favorite horror movie I can’t miss an opportunity like this…I mean I know it has nothing to do with the movie, but come on, it’s called Elm Street Kitchen! We ordered a really hungarian meal, the Lángos (langosh or fried dough)!

It’s soo filling and so yummy with the cheese and the sour cream, ahh! :))

We spent the afternoon in the pools of the Hotel and the sauna! The thermal water was so warm, it made me relax within minutes. The pool with the jacuzzi was just the perfect, pleasant temperature, not too crowded.
Also, it was the first time I tried the cold water after being in a sauna…to tell the truth before I went into the water I tought ‘What if I get a heart attack?!’ but then I realized the Scandinavian people doing this for hundreds of years…so I did it! I actually liked it, it was really really really cold and after a few second I “run” out of it, but it loosen up all my muscles and revived me at the same time!

The dinner was once again mouth-watering, but as soon as we got back to our room, we passed out…

Next day we headed to Debrecen after the breakfast. Our destination was the pedestrian streets and the malls.

Well, to tell the truth, most of this walking was boring…but we could still enjoy the weather…
A little surprise came when we arrived at the mall…Halloween decorations EVERYWHERE!
Okay, so why is it surprise? I guess you’ve seen Halloween decorations everywhere for weeks. Well, it’s simple, Halloween does not exist in Hungary…I mean we know what it is when it is, but it’s just not a holiday here….even so, I love it. Halloween parties just turned up a few years ago, so a mall full of Halloween decoration is a little surprising, but since they were funny, I took a few picture of them!

We almost reached the Hotel when we noticed a stall full of candied fruits and candies and to my surprise (second that day) there was candied hibiscus! Never seen them before so we bought some, it does not have much taste but now I can tell anyone I’ve tried them! 😀

Once again I’ve spent the afternoon in the pools and the sauna! Oh, I have fallen in love with them! 😀

I wasn’t really lucky with that evening’s dinner, however, I loved the fruit soup, it’s heavenly, but the main dish just tasted weird…it was chicken breast filled with green beans in a white wine sauce.

We spent the next day in the spa I mentioned at the beginning…It was fantastic, relaxing and tiring at the same time…sadly I didn’t take pictures, but swear something to me…if you have a chance to visit this place, don’t hesitate, it’s wonderful and I’m sure it’d be even more wonderful to visit in the summer!

There were 8 different theme pools:

–          Ice cave bathing pool

–          Cinema bathing pool

–          Páva thermal bathing pool

–          Tropical bathing pool

–          Ganges bathing pool

–          Roman bathing pool

–          Sea bathing pool

–          Cave bathing pool

My favorites were the Cave, the Tropical, the Roman and the Ganges!

Now that dinner was yummy! It was fried fish, potato croquette, corn salad. For dessert, I had a fruit salad and a slice of berry cake.

We decided to visit a cocktail bar since I’ve never ever had a cocktail before, so when I saw a bar named Azték, I know that’s the place we looked for!

The whole place was so cozy with all the colors, the lights, the decoration and the couches!

I’d a Riccocone (Bols vodka, Bols passionfruit, coconut syrup, cream, pineapple juice, Grenadines) and I really enjoyed it, it was sweet, but not too syrupy, but I still prefer the non-alcoholic drinks…it’s just not for me…maybe I look up some mocktail recipes I can make myself…

After a once again delish breakfast, we spent the before noon with walking in Hajdúszoboszló, and we didn’t regret it, after the foggy morning, we had a sunny, but cold day.

After the walk, we got back to the Hotel and ordered an espresso for Laci and a hot chocolate for me to warm ourself a bit…

It not only looked good but tasted good too! 🙂 After a little rest, we headed to the pools and the sauna for the last time.

Our last dinner was lasagna, one of my favorites, but I can honestly tell, I can do it better… 😀 But it was good, and the dessert was great too.

We were so tired, as soon as we got back to our room and showered, we were out…

The next morning we were up early, had our breakfast and packed up and left the Hotel.

All in all, we closed every day of our vacation being happy, calm, relaxed and tired, but it was in a good way, not from stress or work, but from walking, swimming.

I hope next year we’ll able to go for a similar vacation!
